The North Dakota Department of Transportation  (NDDOT) in cooperation with consulting firms Kimley-Horn and Associates, Alta Planning + Design, KLJ Engineering Services as well as statewide stakeholder groups will be creating a statewide active and public transportation plan called ND Moves.  The Plan will speak to statewide level planning for bicycling, walking and transit use.  The Plan is a twenty-year vision for active transportation and public transportation (transit) in the state of North Dakota.

The inclusion of active transportation (bicycling and walking) into the public transportation plan is a first-time-ever planning effort for the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT).  The last time an active transportation plan (The State Bicycle Plan) was completed by the NDDOT (with consultants) was August, 1994.  The last twenty-three years have seen many changes in attitudes toward active transportation nationally and in North Dakota.

It is my hope as the Founder and Executive Director of the North Dakota Active Transportation Alliance (Alliance)  that the Alliance through it’s board of chairpersons and future members will drive the goals and objectives of this document on the active transportation and transit side.  The Alliance can (and with hope will) fill a statewide advocacy gap that has been in existence for many years.

Public input meetings will begin in November of 2017.

Please stay tuned for further details.
