The House Transportation Committee held a hearing on February 2, 2023 to hear testimony pertaining to a recommended date change to “North Dakota Share the Road Safety Week.” The original time period for North Dakota Share the Road Safety Week was the third week in June. House Concurrent Resolution 3009 would move it to the second week in May.
Holding North Dakota Share the Road Safety Week in the second week of May aligns nicely with national Bike Month and being able to reach out to public school systems before students are released for their summer break. The new timing will also allow advocates and media outlets to “get in front of” the summer bicycling and walking season with safety messaging and engagement information.
Bike Walk North Dakota, North Dakota’s only statewide bicycling and walking advocacy group plans to celebrate the move to the second week of May by holding several community bicycle rides and walks throughout North Dakota. Events will be held between May 7 and May 13.
